One of the latest industrial communications products available from Amplicon Liveline is an external intelligent SIR IrDA adapter, the IR100S This intelligent device is ideal for use in applications which require data collection from portable devices, particularly dataloggers which are collecting analogue and digital field data like temperature, pressure or any other physical variables

This intelligent RS232 to IrDA adapter allows the end user to add an infra-red port to any RS232 device, without the need for any software installation.

The IrDA protocol is installed into the firmware of the device, allowing it to operate with any RS232 port such as a modem, printer, instrument, meter or data terminal.

The IR100S transmits data at speeds between 9.6 and 115.2Kbaud at distances up to 1m.

The adapter operates from 5V DC, 100mA active or 10mA standby in temperatures of between 0 and 60C.

The device is fully compatible with IrLAP, IrLMP and IrCOMM protocols and may be added to any PC fitted with a serial port without installing the relevant IrDA drivers.

An auto sleep and IR wake up facility is also incorporated within the IR100S.

As with all other products offered by Amplicon, the company provides full pre and post sales support for the infra-red adapter.

The device is CE marked for the EMC directive.
