The FCC's E911 requirements had stated that all US networks had to offer location-based services, whereby users dialling the 911 emergency-service number with a compatible terminal could be located by the emergency services.
In Europe, the European Commission's, DG INFSO, has initiated the Co-ordination Group on Access to Location Information by Emergency Services.
This body will define the requirements for a pan-European common location provisioning mechanism, which can be accessed and used by the European 112 community and emergency service operators.
Both network operators and mobile manufacturers have expressed their appreciation for Anite's support for testing these features during the PTCRB meeting.
