Handset interoperability platform adds HSDPA

An Anite Telecoms product story

Anite has included High Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA) features in its SAS mobile handset interoperability platform.

Anite has included High Speed Download Packet Access (HSDPA) features in its SAS mobile handset interoperability platform.

SAS is shipping to customers now.

Anite's SAS interoperability toolset reduces the cost and time taken to bring a fully certified handset to market by providing a network simulation environment in which handsets may be tested.

In recent interoperability testing, Anite SAS customers have reported that SAS can reduce testing time by 60%, in some cases shortening a testing cycle by as much as10 weeks.

Handset interoperability is critical if operators and handset manufacturers are to avoid consumer dissatisfaction with service provision that leads to customer churn and lost revenue opportunities.

Early adoption for HSDPA is expected in 2006 yet many mobile network operators and handset manufacturers have not had the opportunity to test HSDPA handsets due to a lack of live networks.

SAS network simulation is an alternative.

"To date, handset vendors and operators have struggled to contain costs when bringing new handsets to market because they rely on real network availability to test devices", said Rick Gelaky, Product Marketing Manager, Anite.

"As HSDPA reaches maturity and market adoption increases, it's crucial that these costs are brought under control to help maximise revenue opportunities".

"Network simulation testing is a central requirement in allowing this to happen".

Gelaky added: "For an average cost of $150 per device and global sales of 100,000 units per month, SAS could bring forward $30 million in revenue to a handset manufacturer or operator, for each new handset introduced".

Anite's SAS toolset is based on a platform that is common across Anite's entire development, interoperability and conformance testing toolsets.

This enables developers to use one common toolset from initial product conception to market delivery.

Additionally, SAS includes a user interface that allows easy configuration for specific testing requirements, such as acceptance testing for operators.
