14bit A/D conversion at 105Msample/s
Analog Devices is claiming another industry breakthrough with the first 14bit ADC to run at 105Msample/s.
The ADE7759 enables low system costs in high-current energy meters.
An enhancement of its predecessor, the ADE7756, the ADE7759 incorporates a digital integrator in the current channel to allow direct interface with a di/dt (change-in-current over change-in-time) sensor such as the Rogowski coil.
The Rogowski coil sensor has all the benefits of current transformers (CT), including electrical isolation, high current measuring capability and low power consumption.
In addition, di/dt sensors eliminate dc saturation and are competitively priced against shunt resistors.
The ADE7759's built-in digital integrator eliminates the need for an external analogue integrator and provides long-term stability and precise phase matching between the current and voltage channels.
Pin-to-pin compatibility offers ease of migration from existing meter designs using the ADE7756.
Typical power consumption is only 15mW, and the device is designed to operate over a temperature range of -40 to +85C, while requiring only a single, 5V supply.
As with the other products in the ADE775x family, the ADE7759 provides accurate energy measurement to within 0.1% over a current dynamic range of 1000 to 1.
This accuracy surpasses the 1% accuracy specified by typical electromechanical meters.
The ADE7759 and ADE7756 both provide SAG detection for power supply monitoring, zero crossing for cycle-to-cycle fast calibration and waveform samples for power quality-related information.
Featuring bidirectional communication on a serial port, the ADE7759 device is flexible in supporting different meter architectures with channel-offset correction, phase calibration, and power calibration.
The ADE7759 is priced at $3.11 in 1000-piece quantities and is available in a 20-lead SSOP package.
