Transceiver cuts RS485 power budget
The ADM1486 is a 30Mbit/s, 5V, 0.9mA RS485 transceiver, that enables lower power, lower cost Profibus and industrial applications.
The ADM1486 is a 30Mbit/s, 5V, 0.9mA RS485 transceiver, that enables lower power, lower cost Profibus and industrial applications.
Designed for bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines, the ADM1486 features a 2.1V minimum differential output drive and 8ns propagation delays, and allows faster, more robust transmission over longer distances than standard RS485 transmission when used in Profibus-compliant applications.
The ADM1486 meets and surpasses EIA, RS485, RS422 specifications and is Profibus compatible.
Operating from a single 5V power supply, the device contains a differential line driver and a differential line receiver, each of which can be enabled independently, thus minimising loading effects when either or both are not used.
Thermal shutdown and short circuit protection safeguard against fault conditions, and extremely fast, closely matched switching speeds permit data transmission rates of up to 30Mbit/s with minimal EMI interference.
The ADM1486 is fully specified over the industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C) and is fabricated on BiCMOS technology, an advanced mixed technology process combining low power CMOS and fast switching bipolar technology.
The ADM1486 is available in the space-saving 8-lead SOIC package, and is priced at $1.50 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
Samples are available today, with production quantities available in October 2002.
