The AD8349 is an I/Q quadrature modulator that enables single-stage up-conversion for wireless infrastructure equipment.

The AD8349 is an I/Q quadrature modulator that enables single-stage up-conversion for wireless infrastructure equipment.

The device covers the 800MHz to 2.7GHz band, allowing a designer to specify the AD8349, and to standardise on it across multiple operating bands and cellular standards.

The AD8349 is designed to ease direct up-conversion for CDMA, W-CDMA, GSM Edge and TDMA transmitters.

A direct up-conversion architecture significantly reduces the cost compared to traditional multistage IF approach.

Dynamic range is the key design specification for the cellular infrastructure market.

The AD8349 noise floor is specified at -156dBm/Hz and the P1dB output compression point is specified at +5dBm, therefore allowing the user to attain a higher output for a given adjacent channel power (ACP).

With improved quadrature accuracy 0.2dB and phase balance 0.5 degrees, the AD8349 achieves a sideband rejection of -42dBc.

The I/Q baseband bandwidth is specified out to 200MHz, enabling the device to be used in broadband applications and as single sideband up-conversion stage in both cellular and wireless access equipment.

In addition, the AD8349 I/Q baseband outputs are specified with a bias voltage that eases the interface to Analog Devices' TxDAC transmit path digital to analogue convertors, eliminating the need for the bias circuitry that is commonly required by competing modulators.

Introduction of the AD8349 attests to Analog Devices' commitment to the wireless RF market and extends the company's portfolio.

The AD8349 is package and pin compatible with the AD8346 and AD8345 quadrature modulators, enabling the designer to standardise on a common footprint and to upgrade existing designs, where appropriate.

The AD8349 is supplied in a 16-lead TSSOP (thin shrunk small outline package) and is fully specified for use over the -40 to +85C temperature range.

Samples and preproduction quantities are available for immediate shipment.

The AD8349 is priced at $4.50 per unit in 10,000-piece quantities.
