Analog Devices is sampling two new low-cost ADSP-219x models - the ADSP-2195 and ADSP-2196 - expanding the ADSP-21xx family of code compatible digital signal processors.
14bit A/D conversion at 105Msample/s
Analog Devices is claiming another industry breakthrough with the first 14bit ADC to run at 105Msample/s.
The technology uses planar magnetics to isolate sensitive circuitry and protect the interface between high- and low-voltage electric environments.
iCoupler technology uses one-tenth the power of optocouplers, delivers the most accurate signal, and transfers data at the highest speed available.
In contrast, using beams of light as the isolation method, optocouplers consume large amounts of power, have performance limitations, and are difficult to integrate with other electronics.
"iCoupler technology improves our position of technical and technological leadership with our Profibus products", said Guenther Bock, Director of I/O Peripherals at Siemens Automation and Drives.
"Configured as a pin-for-pin compatible replacement to our existing isolator, the iCoupler products are easily adapted into our current designs.
Furthermore, the integration benefits of this new technology give us the opportunity to improve the size, component count, and power consumption of future Profibus products".
Analog Devices' first iCoupler product, the ADuM1100 high-speed digital isolator, supports data rates up to 100Mbit/s and is compatible with supply voltages from 3.0 to 5.5V.
It operates at one-tenth the power consumption of comparable optocouplers and is scalable for future products, enabling multiple isolation channels or isolation channels integrated with other semiconductor functions.
"The process control and factory automation industry is increasingly relying on high-performance analogue technology for data acquisition and system monitoring.
We view this digital isolation technology as a key capability that can bring significant additional advantages to our industrial customers", said Pat O'Doherty, Product Line Director of Precision Convertors, Analog Devices".
"Siemens' adoption of the ADuM1100 is a strong testament to the value of the iCoupler technology in industrial applications".
With operating temperatures ranging from -40 to +125C, the ADuM1100 is in full production and is priced at $1.86 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
