The EaglePlus ADSL2/2plus CPE chipset is the first commercially available chipset compliant with ITU ADSL2/2plus standards, and is capable of transmission rates up to 24Mbit/s.

The EaglePlus ADSL2/2plus customer premises equipment (CPE) chipset is capable of transmission rates of up to 24Mbit/s The EaglePlus chipset is the first commercially available chipset compliant with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ADSL2/2plus standards, and has established interoperability with the Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) in ADSL2plus mode

Offered as a companion to Analog Devices' network processing products, the EaglePlus chipset can be used to deliver advanced voice, video and data applications.

The EaglePlus chipset supports all ADSL2/2plus annexes, including Reach Extended ADSL2 (RE-ADSL2), which can be used to increase the accessible customer base by up to 40%.

"Analog Devices' ADSL2/2plus CPE silicon arrives to the marketplace just as advanced services over DSL such as video are beginning mass deployments", said John Croteau, General Manager, Media Platforms and Services Group at Analog Devices, "Carriers now have an unprecedented opportunity to leverage their existing infrastructure to compete with cable on a level playing field".

"We are pleased to be contributing to this important industry milestone".

The EaglePlus chipset is based on Aware's StratiPHY2+ data-pump technology, which has a robust feature set that implements all required and optional ADSL2plus specifications, as well as legacy ADSL standards, to address the rapidly growing worldwide ADSL market.

Analog Devices and Aware worked on the Alcatel 7300 (ASAM) DSL technology to enable high-bandwidth access and new revenue-generating broadband services over existing twisted pair copper telephone wiring.

EaglePlus is compliant with the ITU standard ADSL2plus (G.992.5), which doubles the downstream bandwidth up to 24Mbit/s, resulting in significant downstream datarate increases on shorter phone lines.

This enables service providers to evolve their networks to support advanced services such as video.

It includes all the features and performance benefits of ADSL2 while maintaining the capability to interoperate with legacy equipment, so that carriers will be able to overlay new, advanced technologies without having to "forklift-upgrade" existing equipment, allowing for a gradual transition to advanced services.

EaglePlus also incorporates the benefits of Reach-Extended ADSL2 (RE-ADSL2), which was approved by the ITU in October 2003 (ADSL2 Annex L).

RE-ADSL2 uses new power spectral density (PSD) masks that significantly increase ADSL's reach by up to 40%.

Customers with phone lines longer than 5.5km have often been considered out of reach of an ADSL connection, so offering services to these customers by extending the reach of DSL is an effective way for carriers to expand their customer base.

The EaglePlus broadens ADI's ADSL CPE product portfolio to complement its Pathfinder, Eagle and Eagle-II CPE ADSL chipsets.

EaglePlus samples are available now.
