Analog Devices has revealed its plans for next week's 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France (14th to 17th February 2005).

Analog Devices has revealed its plans for next week's 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France (14th to 17th February 2005).

Highlighting the company's presence at the show will be a Technology Symposium speech on "Accelerating low cost GSM/GPRS/Edge handset development", by Christian Kermarrec, Vice President of RF and Wireless Systems at Analog Devices.

The speech, which is scheduled for 1350 CET on 14th February, will provide an analysis of existing and emerging cellular markets, discuss factors driving the need for low-cost handsets, and identify technologies that can lead to significant reductions in handset development costs.

"As the major players in the GSM industry convene in France next week for the world's biggest cellular conference, what's sure to be on everyone's mind is the future of the GSM family of technologies", said Kermarrec.

"Analog Devices has led the technology development of GSM since the industry's inception, and as we continue the migration to 3G networks, of utmost concern to handset vendors is lowering development costs while increasing product flexibility".

"Analog Devices' robust portfolio of wireless technologies will continue to pave the way towards next generation networks, spearheaded by the recent design breakthroughs we have achieved in our Othello and SoftFone families".

Throughout the show, Analog Devices' booth (Stand D60 in Hall 2) will showcase the latest technologies in the company's award-winning Othello and SoftFone product families, which address the most challenging design requirements of current and next-generation wireless handsets.

Specifically, the company will hold the first public demonstration of its recently announced Othello-G direct conversion radio transceiver.

Through several design breakthroughs, Othello-G enables a complete, quad-band radio subsystem at a size of just 1.5cm2, the smallest in the industry for GSM/GPRS handsets.

Using Othello-G, handset designers can achieve significant component count reduction and overall BOM savings.

Also, as the world's number-three supplier of GSM/GPRS/Edge baseband solutions, Analog Devices will showcase its SoftFone series of baseband processors, including the recently announced SoftFone-LCR chipset, a complete chipset solution for the TD-SCDMA standard and SoftFone-W, a complete chipset enabling multimode W-CDMA/GSM/GPRS/Edge operation.

The company will be demonstrating various multimedia applications running on its chipsets.

Additionally, cutting-edge products incorporating Analog Devices' wireless technology will be on display.

Analog Devices will also be featured in the booth of its long-time software partner, TTPCom.
