The ADM1041 is a highly integrated, advanced secondary-side controller targeted for high availability AC/DC power supplies used in communications applications.

The device is optimised to provide greater design flexibility and cost efficiencies when used in place of current discrete solutions.

Used as a secondary-side power controller, the ADM1041 can replace hundreds of discretes - up to a 70% reduction in total power supply components.

The ADM1041 provides a fully tested, digitally controlled solution, eliminating the need for manual calibration and adjustment on the secondary-side controller.

This enables faster product design cycles (time-to-market), a critical requirement in the data processing and communications markets.

The reduction in component count increases MTBF (mean time between failure), improving system reliability and power supply quality in high availability 24/7 applications, such as network servers and routers.

Due to component reduction and the facility to calibrate in-situ, the device provides the capabilities required for achieving twice the power density (25W/in3) of existing solutions, allowing power manufacturers to meet the growing market demand for higher power density in less board space.

The ADM1041 is based on a revolutionary integration platform that Analog Devices designed for Astec Power, a leading international supplier of high quality power conversion solutions.

The ADM1041 integrates several key features on-chip including current sharing, which provides support for N+1 power supplies, share bus sense and control, voltage and current sense, and digital control with EEPROM, which provides greater design flexibility and eliminates the need for external trim pots.

Programming is done through a SMBus serial port, which also allows communication with a microprocessor or microcontroller.

The ADM1041 is ideally suited for AC/DC power supplies above 300W that are used in high availability, 24/7 applications such as computer servers, network routers, hubs and switches, and basestations.

The ADM1041 is available in a 24-pin QSOP package and is priced at $3.95 per unit in 10,000 piece quantities.
