Processors step on the network accelerator
The Fusiv-NP family of network processors provide industry-leading network throughput performance with IPSec security.
New from Analog Devices, the Fusiv-NP family of network processors provide industry-leading network throughput performance with IPSec security.
Using an innovative distributed architecture, the Fusiv-NP family provides wire-speed performance with IPSec security even for IP packets as small as 64byte.
Aimed at the small- to medium-enterprise (SME) gateway market, the Fusiv-NP family of devices combines network protocol processing, security processing, and host processing on a single chip, along with scalable security/crypto functionality and wire-speed packet forwarding and handling capabilities.
Independent tests by the Tolly Group validate the superior performance of Fusiv network processors.
The Fusiv-NP family includes: the Fusiv-NP 210, for Ethernet-to-Ethernet security gateways that support virtual private network (VPN) and firewall applications; the Fusiv-NP 220, a general-purpose network processor with PCI/wireless and connectivity for various types of broadband access, such as FTTH PON, ADSL, and VDSL; and the Fusiv-NP 230, which offers the same capabilities as the Fusiv-NP 220 and adds IPSec.
Two customers - Yamaha and NEC - have already developed enterprise gateway products that incorporate Fusiv-NP network processors.
ADI's Fusiv-NP network processors are built on a scaleable architecture capable of wire-speed performance, even when hardware-based security is enabled.
The Fusiv architecture uses accelerator processors to route packets between interfaces without the need for CPU intervention, which allows for wire-speed Ethernet performance while preserving headroom in the 200MHz CPU to continue processing application-specific functionality.
"This breakthrough network processing solution delivers a unique combination of wire-speed performance, security features, quality of service (QoS), and low price point for a whole host of networking, communications, and security applications", said John Croteau, General Manager, Media Platforms and Services Group at Analog Devices.
"With a portfolio of devices to cover a broad range of applications and price points, the Fusiv-NP family raises the bar for the competition, with its unique accelerator processor-based architecture that provides high performance along with sufficient headroom for running new applications".
The Fusiv-NP network and security processors are ideally suited for router, DSLAM (digital subscriber line access multiplexer), VPN, firewall, line card and other applications.
In addition to the network processors themselves, ADI provides customers with multiple software options.
Customers can use a comprehensive portfolio of software that includes IPSec/VPN, VoIP signalling, firewall/NAT, network management, IP middleware, routing and switching, SNDCP, and ATM.
Other software options include porting of a customer's own software stack, for which ADI provides a comprehensive board support package (BSP).
Alternatively, software can be provided through select third-party software companies.
The Fusiv-NP 210, Fusiv-NP 220 and Fusiv-NP 230 network processors are shipping now.
Per-unit pricing in quantities of 10,000 units are $25 for the Fusiv-NP 210 and Fusiv-NP 220, and $40 for the Fusiv-NP 230.
