A dual detector/controller precisely measures and controls the gain across the transmitter and receiver signal path within wireless infrastructure equipment.

Analog Devices is extending its portfolio of radio frequency integrated circuit (RFICs) with a dual detector/controller that precisely measures and controls the gain across the transmitter and receiver signal path within wireless infrastructure equipment The ADL5519 integrates two matched detectors on a single chip, thus offering considerable savings in board area and component cost as compared with conventional or discrete solutions

The ADL5519 covers a wide frequency range of 1MHz to 10GHz, making the part suitable for use within all cellular standards (GSM, CDMA, W-CDMA and TD-SCDMA), broadband wireless standards (802.16, WiMAX, WiBro and 802.11 W-LAN), and proprietary systems that operate in extended frequency bands such as UNII 5.8GHz.

The ADL5519 integrates two AD8317 log detectors to provide accurately scaled, independent, logarithmic outputs of both RF input channels.

The device offers the performance benefits of ADI's AD8317 - fast response time of 8/10ns (fall/rise) and excellent temperature stability of +/-0.5dB over a 50dB dynamic range.

In addition to the two matched logarithmic output voltages, the ADL5519 provides a difference output that effectively measures the power gain or loss between the two inputs, and an accurately scaled temperature output.

With the difference output, the ADL5519 can accurately control the gain across a transmitter or receiver signal chain as each of the two individual log detectors can be set to measure inputs signals at different frequencies.

Within high power amplifiers, the ADL5519 can be used to monitor input and output power, or to measure forward and reverse output power that is the return loss voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of the load.

The ADL5519 operates over a supply voltage range of 3 to 5V, with a typical power consumption of 56mA when enabled, and only 400uA when disabled.

The device is packaged in a space saving 4 x 4mm, 24-lead LFCSP (lead frame chip scale package).

The ADL5519 two-channel log detector is sampling now, with volume production scheduled for October 2006.

The device is priced at $4.98 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
