Parametric measurement unit boasts four channels

An Analog Devices product story

Analog Devices is introducing the industry's first quad-channel PMU (parametric measurement unit).

Analog Devices is introducing the industry's first quad-channel PMU (parametric measurement unit).

The AD5522 combines four independent channels in a space-saving 12 x 12mm TQFP package.

Each of the four channels includes on-chip sense resistors for 5uA, 20uA, 200uA and 2mA current ranges.

In addition, an external range is available on each channel, enabling designers to generate up to 64mA with an external sense resistor - or higher currents with an external buffer.

The device features a 22.5V voltage span that is both scalable and offsetable, providing greater design flexibility.

Twenty 16bit DACs (digital-to-analogue convertors) are provided on-chip for setting force, clamp and comparator levels.

This PMU has no performance tradeoffs, enabling designers to force voltage and measure current precisely, while reducing design time and minimising board space requirements.

Overall, the AD5522 offers a level of performance and integration unattainable in existing solutions from both ADI and its competitors.

Each channel includes voltage and current clamps, a window-comparator and a guard amplifier.

A full set of registers is included for each mode of operation, making it easier to perform system calibration.

All PMU functions are controlled via a serial SPI or LVDS interface.

The 80-lead TQFP package is available with the paddle on either top or bottom side, giving designers a choice as to how to cool the part.

The AD5522's channel integration, compact sise, 22.5V output range and high accuracy make it an ideal solution for ATE and instrumentation applications, such as memory testers, SoC testers, voltage/current sources and analogue instruments with high precision source and measurement circuitry.

The AD5522 is sampling now in an 80-lead, 12 x 12mm TQFP package and is scheduled for release in April 2007.

The AD5523, a related product without the LVDS interface and external current range, is available in a smaller 64-lead, 9 x 9mm LFCSP package.

Pricing for 1000-piece quantities is $39.00 per unit for the AD5522 and $31.00 for the AD5523.

An evaluation board is available for the AD5522.
