TFT modules cut industrial display costs

TFT LCDs operate from -20 to +70C, making them suitable for industrial applications, but without the price premium typically associated with extended temperature operation.

Anders Electronics has a new range of TFT LCDs for instrumentation, process control, automation, portable measurement and other price-sensitive industrial applications The 3.5, 5 and 5.7in modules all operate from -20 to +70C, making them suitable for a broad range of industrial applications, but without the price premium typically associated with extended temperature operation

The new 3.5in module offers LED backlighting with a brightness rating of 250cd/m2, the 5.0in module has 350cd/m2 and the 5.7in technology uses a long-life CCFL backlight to deliver over 500cd/m2.

All the displays feature conventional digital RGB plus timing-signal interfaces for easy integration into embedded or PC-based industrial applications.

Each model also comes with the option of a resistive touchscreen, providing an off the shelf solution capable of supporting feature-rich, "soft" and highly integrated user interfaces.

The 3.5in QVGA display has 8bit colour depth for vivid and accurate image reproduction.

Long-life and extended life LED backlight options help to minimise ongoing maintenance by providing operating life to half brightness of 20,000 and 40,000 hours, respectively; many similar displays offer 10,000 to 20,000 hours by comparison.

The 5.7in QVGA module measures 144 x 104mm, a format already widely used in industrial control and embedded computing applications.

This allows replacement using a lower-cost display with little mechanical redesign or modification, reducing time, expense and engineering effort.

The new 5in industrial TFT model in 320 x 234 pixel resolution features a 6bit colour depth and offers a hard coated, antiglare surface treatment as well as compact overall dimensions of 118.0 x 91.5mm.

The display will readily fit inside DIN-format instrument housings, allowing room for additional front-panel controls, providing extra flexibility for designers looking to integrate a 5.0in display into a wide range of industrial and professional instruments.
