Anritsu has introduced the MT8850A tester to offer manufacturers of Bluetooth modules comprehensive, one-button testing traceable to national standards It has been both designed and built at Anritsu's Stevenage plant

Industry forecasts predict that hundreds of millions of Bluetooth products will be sold annually as soon as 2003.

The success of the standard will depend on users of the technology enjoying reliable, high-quality connections, "out of the box".

Reliable testing will be one of the keys to achieving this but, because the target price for adding a Bluetooth interface to a product is under $5, cost of test will have to be kept correspondingly low.

Therefore, Anritsu designed the MT8850A to offer a test time of ten seconds for typical production requirements - including measurements of power, frequency, modulation and receiver bit error rate - with preprogrammed or user-defined test scripts initiated by a single press of the RUN key.

The MT8850A will enable developers of Bluetooth products to conduct true RF measurements rather than simple functional testing.

This is particularly important with a technology such as Bluetooth, in which the integration of a module into an OEM product will not necessarily produce predictable results, and the performance of every item will be different.

This makes it essential to test to a known set of parameters using an instrument traceable to national standards.

The traceability of the MT8850A's measurements will ensure that the brand consistency and interoperability of Bluetooth is maintained.

The instrument's capabilities make it suitable for design proving, preconformance testing and production test.
