Anritsu has introduced the MD1230A, a portable high-performance analyser for the next generation of IP networks.

Anritsu has introduced the MD1230A, a portable high-performance analyser for the next generation of IP networks As the world's networks evolve towards an all-IP solution, the Access and Metro domains are deploying 10/100 and 1G interfaces to offer a low-cost solution to meet the IP customer's local and short-haul networking needs

However, the long-haul core still makes use of the SDH transport network functionality by using Packet over SDH/SONET interfaces that can be used alongside existing circuit based systems.

Terabit routers incorporating multiple 10G/2.5G interfaces alongside the lower speed 1G and 10/100 units are being deployed in the network to provide the packet switching and routing functionality that support IP communication.

Anritsu's MD1230A meets the need for IP testing in assessing performance capability of Terabit routers and the requirement for in-service monitoring of traffic on existing networks.

The new analyser provides test capability on multiple 10G POS, 2.5G POS, 1G Ethernet and 10/100 Ethernet interfaces.

For example, 40x10/100 ports or 5x2.5G POS ports may be deployed in a single chassis.

Furthermore, multiple chassis may be centrally controlled to increase the port density.

Using this rich port density and integrating automatic RFC2544 measurement, the MD1230A is ideally suited to checking the performance of Terabit routers.

The MD1230A's multiport functionality can also be used to provide through-mode monitoring of live networks.

In this mode, the analyser can provide VPN QoS traffic monitoring using VLAN or Diffserv tags.

It also provides comprehensive SDH overhead monitoring and can capture and decode protocols from Layer 2 to Layer 4.

The MD1230A also provides full remote operations capability with GPS synchronisation for latency measurements, and multiuser remote control software enabling resource allocation to different users and parallel testing.
