Anritsu and Actix have signed an agreement under which the two companies will develop their respective third-generation (3G) network measurement hardware and analysis software products to work closely together By making Anritsu's ML8720B portable W-CDMA area tester compatible with the Actix Planning Validation Solution (A-PVS) software, the two companies will greatly simplify the post-analysis of 3G base-station infrastructure measurements, leading to faster cell and network optimisation

The detailed data obtained by the ML8720B will be analysed by the Actix software providing network installers and operators with a comprehensive assessment of network performance.

Anritsu's ML8720B has been developed for the collection and evaluation of radio propagation characteristics in the area surrounding 3G basestations.

It is portable, making it suitable for a wide range of measurement tasks that are difficult or impossible for current desktop testers, and interfaces to GPS receivers for accurate location-based measurements.

Its measurement functions include a range of parameters that are used to evaluate the strength and interference of up to 32 pilot channels.

The delay profile facility enables up to 12 multipaths to be simultaneously measured.

Spurious frequency measurement is aided by the internal spectrum monitor facility.

Using the accurate measured data from the ML8720B, A-PVS enables engineers to assess whether the cell count calculated to be necessary to deliver a certain grade of service is accurate, thereby reducing the risk of building cell sites which do not meet required coverage, soft handoff or grade of service objectives.

It incorporates a number of seamlessly integrated elements a powerful wireless decision support platform, measured/predicted metric reports, and coverage and interference analyses.
