GSM analyser gains speed and voice capabilities
Anritsu has introduced two new options for its MT8820A radiocommunications analyser.
Anritsu's MT8820A demonstrates an ability to provide all the Layer 2 and Layer 3 signalling required to ensure that the UE can be put into communications just as though it was on a real 3G Network.
Chris Foreman, Product Marketing Manager for Anritsu's European Measurement Division comments, "This is a significant milestone in getting 3GPP terminals to market as no other one box tester in the world is able to provide this for UMTS".
The UMTS show in Paris will see Anritsu testing a number of 3G UEs with voice and data capability.
Among the tests being demonstrated will be voice calls including hand-over between W-CDMA and GSM, and data calls including a "live videophone demonstration".
Chris Foreman confirms, "This will be the first time many of these functions will be shown tested on 3GPP compatible terminals.
The test capability may prove to those still sceptical that 3G is here and ready to be deployed in the next few months".
Other announcements for the UMTS show will be supported by the live demonstration of a measurement solution for providing "off-air" UMTS network performance information.
This information is needed by RF engineers to evaluate and diagnose critical W-CDMA/UMTS network functions in either a real-time or a playback mode.
The new system comprises Anritsu's ML8720B W-CDMA area tester combined with "DimensionZ", a network testing and optimisation software platform available from Metatron Technologies.
This means that 2G/2.5G/3G test phones can also be connected to the system with phone data being simultaneously collected, displayed and analysed using the appropriate "DimensionZ" Layer 3 viewer module.
Anritsu will be demonstrating, a number of real-time composite displays such as text, graph, map and other specialised graphical user interfaces (GUI) from data streams provided by the ML8720B to the W-CDMA analyser module of "DimensionZ" and example UMTS Layer 3 viewer data files.
