All-in solution to testing handset power
amps
The ME7840/4 handset power amplifier test system (PATS) is a single connection solution that thoroughly characterises the performance of next-generation handset power amplifiers.
The ME7840/4 handset power amplifier test system (PATS) is a single connection solution that thoroughly characterises the performance of next-generation handset power amplifiers By intelligently integrating the measurement capabilities of five instruments with a high-power test set, PATS streamlines handset power amplifier test, resulting in lower capital equipment expenditures, enhanced productivity, and improved time-to-market

A turnkey measurement solution for power amplifiers that handles 5W from 10MHz to 6GHz, the handset PATS consists of Anritsu's Scorpion vector network measurement system (VNMS), a high-power test set, and Scorpion Navigator software.
With the integration of the Scorpion VNMS, the handset PATS includes a powerful suite of measurements, including the industry's fastest capability to tune for swept power gain compression and intermodulation distortion (IMD).
Other single connection tests include S-parameters, harmonics, and noise figure from 50MHz to 6GHz.

For adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) measurements, the high-power test set also includes an auxiliary path for connection to an external signal generator and analyser.
The intelligent Scorpion Navigator software dramatically improves the time-consuming and often tedious setup, calibration, measurement, and reporting activities typically associated with power amplifier tests.
With Windows compatibility, Scorpion Navigator is easily installed on most computers, providing immediate access to a suite of single-tone, two-tone, and modulated measurement tools.
The Scorpion Navigator also contains advance algorithms that can optimise settings, orchestrate calibrations, avoid damaging situations and flexibly display results so users can concentrate on optimising performance in terms of gain, match and linearity versus power.
For further flexibility and higher functionality, the Scorpion Navigator contains an easy to automate feature that enables the orchestration of further custom measurement scenarios.
For example, the Scorpion Navigator can easily handle external pulse generators and power supplies to characterise power amplifiers under pulse or various bias conditions.
This capability is inherent to Scorpion Navigator because it uses ActiveX controls that can plug into a wide variety of popular software environments.
Among the environments are Visual Basic, Excel, VBScript, JavaScript, Visual C++, LabView, Lab Windows, Test Stand and HP-Vee.
This flexibility allows modulated sources, modulation analysers, power meters, pulse generators and power supplies to be easily configured with the test system for the highest levels of functionality.
The handset PATS is Anritsu's latest single connection solution.
Anritsu also offers the ME7840A basestation PATS and the ME7842 tower mounted amplifier test system (TMATS), both of which also consist of the Scorpion VNMS, optimised test set, and intelligent Scorpion Navigator software.
These test systems provide easy-to-use, comprehensive and intelligent measurement capabilities for next generation power amplifier and tower mounted amplifier (TMA) requirements.
