Convertor boosts efficiency for single-cell uses

The AAT1151 synchronous buck convertor can be used in a wide variety of portable applications powered by a single-cell lithium ion/polymer battery.

Advanced Analogic Technologies (AnalogicTech) has released the AAT1151 synchronous buck convertor.

Delivering more than 700mA output current in a compact 3 x 3mm QFN package across a 2.7 to 5.5V input range, the step-down switching convertor can be used in a wide variety of portable applications powered by a single-cell lithium ion/polymer battery.

The latest addition to AnalogicTech's expanding total power management IC product family operates at a fixed 850kHz switching frequency and combines PWM and PFM control to maintain high efficiency across all load conditions.

The integration of low-on-resistance MOSFETs for the switch and synchronous rectifier (110 and 100mohm, respectively), greatly increases full load efficiency.

Targeted at the growing number of high performance PDAs, MP3 players, smart phones and peripheral cards that require higher efficiency step-down capability in order to maximise power utilisation and extend battery life, the AAT1151 delivers 700mA in the same footprint as an SOT-23 package.

This assists designers meeting their current needs without jeopardising power budgets or the device footprint.

The current-mode controlled AAT1151 uses synchronous rectification to reach efficiency levels of up to 95%.

Fully integrated compensation simplifies design and minimises external parts count.

Shutdown current is less than 1mA.

The AAT1151 also features internal soft-start and complete overtemperature and current-limit protection.

Qualified across the standard -40 to +85C industrial temperature range, the AAT1151 is available in either a 16-pin QFN (3 x 3mm) or MSOP-8 package.

Pricing starts at $1.20 per unit in 1000-piece quantities.
