Two new compact, high efficiency step-down convertors are ideal for space-constrained, wired electronic equipment applications.

By using a 1MHz switching frequency to minimise the size of external components, maximising efficiency, and integrating a complete internal compensation circuit, the convertors offer better performance than traditional switchers and save considerable board space in the process.

Combining high frequency operation, low output ripple, and full internal compensation, AnalogicTech's AAT1154 and AAT1155 buck DC/DC convertors deliver 3.0 and 2.5A output current in small SOP-8 and MSOP-8 packages, respectively.

In many wired desktop electronic applications such as set-top boxes, telecomms equipment, and computer peripherals, board real estate has become almost as important as in portable designs.

Space saving is also a key concern in graphics cards, network cards, and other plug-ins.

The AAT1154 and AAT1155 are constant PWM mode convertors offering up to 95% efficiency and supporting a maximum input voltage up to 5.5V.

The convertors supply both a fixed and an adjustable output over a 1.0 to 4.2V range.

On both devices, an internal compensation circuit simplifies system design and minimises external parts count.

The two new convertors also feature internal soft start, current limit and overtemperature protection to maximise device reliability.

Both devices are qualified across the standard -40 to +85C industrial temperature range.
