Apcon has developed a new family of 10Gbit blades designed for the company's line of physical layer switches.

The new set of blades gives existing and new customers the ability to more effectively test advanced gigabit technology, while cutting the costs to do so.

The blade family consists of three models supporting 10Gbit/s Fibre Channel, 10-Gigabit Ethernet and OC-192.

Designed for Apcon's IntellaPatch 144 and IntellaPatch 64 physical layer switch line, each four-port blade works with both XFP transceivers and single-mode/multi-mode LC fibre-optic cables.

Both switch models offer a "wire-once" solution, eliminating manual patching and repatching, and providing nonblocking, any-to-any connections at wire speed.

"10-Gig Ethernet products are just starting to hit the market, while companies such as QLogic and Emulex are all pushing to get their 10-Gig Fibre Channel product out the door by the end of the year.

Our switch, loaded with the 10-Gig blade, will enable these early adopters to get their products to market faster.

In addition, this announcement puts Apcon in position to work with the leading-edge companies who are developing the next wave of networking solutions", said Richard Rauch, Apcon CEO and President.

"What our customers are looking for is a way to move through their test processes quickly and accurately - basically they want to get in and out of the lab as fast as they can and get their product to market first.

By placing our 10-Gig switch in their test bed, they can evaluate interoperability, increase test repeatability, remotely configure and automate management of their test sequences", continued Rauch.

Lab environment configurations generally require multiple fibre-optic connections between various switches and routers, servers, storage systems, peripherals, and operating systems.

These connections are made by manual patching and repatching.

IntellaPatch switches permit engineers to automate fail-over testing, conduct electronic simulation of cable pulls, share analysers and other test devices, multicast traffic generators to multiple ports (1 to N) and enable reconfiguration of these environments within seconds using Apcon Control software or a variety of flexible scripting options.

Pricing for the 10Gbit blades starts at $9995 and is available for order immediately.

Transceivers and cables are sold separately.
