PC/104 expansion modules add standard interfaces
Three new MiniModule PC/104-Plus expansion boards bring high-speed industry standard I/O capabilities to the PC/104 market for the very first time.
This announcement means that system OEMs who require 5- to 10-year product availability, extended temperature to +85C, and/or conformal coating for their rugged application can finally migrate to a high-performance single board computer without having to compromise the thermal design of their system.
"Ampro kicks off its 20th year anniversary by putting a 933MHz processor in the same small 5.75 by 8in Little Board form factor that we invented for the 8MHz 80186-based Little Board", said Joanne Williams, President and CEO, Ampro Computers.
"Our customers appreciate our longstanding devotion to board and bus standards, which facilitates their smooth transitions from one processor generation to the next".

More I/O for embedded board series
Ampro Computers has added further I/O expansion capabilities for its Little Board and CoreModule single board computers and CPU modules.
"Processor selection continues to play a critical role in Ampro's success with long-term availability and product performance under extreme environmental conditions", said Paul Rosenfeld, Ampro's CTO.
"Embedded OEMs do not like to redesign or requalify their products suddenly because a chip or board vendor decides to stop supplying parts.
OEMs in medical, military, and regulated gaming markets are confronted with extensive qualification and regulatory procedures, and, therefore, depend on long, well managed product lifecycles.
By partnering only with the most reputable processor vendors in the world, who have demonstrated their commitments to the embedded space, Ampro is in a very strong position to extend its leadership in these markets".
"Intel has an established history of supplying OEMs with Intel Architecture processors and chipsets with lifecycles well beyond those in the PC and server marketplace", said Joe Jensen, General Manager, Embedded Intel Architecture Division.
"With the introduction of the Little Board 700, featuring embedded IA processors, Ampro provides their customers with performance and scalability, and extended lifecycle support that their embedded applications demand".
The Low Voltage Pentium III processor with 512Kbyte cache at 933MHz, offers embedded systems OEMs reduced power dissipation compared with the previous-generation 850MHz Socket 370 Pentium III processor.
With a power rating of 12.2W, less than half of the 25.7W rating of the Socket 370 Pentium III processor at 850MHz, the Low Voltage Pentium III processor is a must-have for next-generation, high-performance embedded systems, where the degree of difficulty of the thermal design alone can make or break a project.
Each Little Board 700 comes with a choice of 933MHz Low Voltage Pentium III-M, 650MHz Low Voltage Celeron-M, or 400MHz Celeron-M processor, plus all the component subsystems expected in a state-of-the-art embedded PC board.
Supporting up to 1Gbyte DRAM, they also include thermal monitoring and advanced power management functions.
An onboard Type II CompactFlash socket supports up to 1Gbyte or more Flash memory, accessed as an IDE hard disk drive.
Onboard peripherals include dual 10/100BaseT Ethernet controllers and an advanced AGP 4X video controller with flat panel support for TFT and STN LCD and digital flat panels.
Digital flat panel support is provided through an onboard LVDS connector.
Up to 32Mbyte of video memory are accessible through the unified memory architecture.
Other onboard controllers provide AC97 sound, four USB ports, four full modem RS232C/RS422/RS485 serial ports and all standard PC architecture elements.
A PC/104-Plus bus provides full PCI and ISA expansion capability.
Little Board 700 prices start under $500 in moderate volumes.
The Little Board 700 is available today for evaluation and qualification, with production volumes available in 60 days.
