Chassis provides 80W per slot cooling capability
The Ventus is a new entry-level 12U, 21-slot IEEE1101.10-compliant chassis from APW Electronic Solutions.
If the application isn't mission critical and six-nines availability is not required, the new entry-level Ventus 12U, 21-slot IEEE1101.10-compliant chassis from APW Electronic Solutions provides the 80W per slot cooling capability of the original fault-tolerant, high availability design, but without the costly redundancy and intelligence.
System cooling is fast becoming a major issue and is more important than ever before.
Power consumption and system packaging density continue to rise inexorably, but for reliable long-term operation, maximum allowable silicon die temperature has remained stable at around 85C.
Ventus chassis cooling is provided by APW's patented, hybrid serial/parallel fan arrangement.
Three hot-swap, pluggable FRUs, each containing three separate fans, provide linear airflow of 259m/min through all 21 slots with 70% obstruction in each slot position.
Total system throughput of air is 7.22kl/min.
In the event of a single fan failure, airflow is maintained at just under 244m/min per slot or 6.80kl/min total.
The chassis has positions for up to three, independently cooled, AC or DC input, 600W power supply units.
These are hot swappable and can be populated as required to suit the power demands and configuration of the system.
Ventus is a 12U, 21-slot IEEE1101.10 compliant chassis, supporting front and rear plug-up modules.
It is configured as a 3U cooling section, 6U system area, 2U air intake section (fitted with a 98% open area honeycomb mesh) and a 1U power supply section.
The backplane supports CompactPCI PICMG 2.16 and PICMG 2.5 CTbus (H110) with Stealthbridge technology; for VMEbus users, a VITA41 backplane is currently in development.
