Optimised compiler debugs more
efficiently
Optimised compiler and more efficient debug software for ARC processor core families lower development times and speed 'time-to-market'.
ARC International, the leader in configurable processor technology, and Green Hills Software,, the technology leader in embedded software development tools and real-time operating systems, today announced the availability of enhanced versions of Green Hills Software's MULTI Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the ARC 600 and 700 families of configurable processors Green Hills Software's enhanced MULTI IDE provides improved hardware breakpoint support for more efficient debug on ARC's cores, a new X/Y memory viewer that provides access to all the ARC architecture's X/Y memory banks through MULTI's memview, and an updated connection editor for the Green Hills ARCserv software simulator

ARC emulators use JTAG to cut external hardware
Available from ARC Cores are the first JTAG emulators for a configurable processor to provide powerful development and test capabilities normally only available with external hardware.
ARC's recently released MetaWare Toolkit 7.1 is fully supported, as is support for ARC's Cycle Accurate Simulator (CAS), which enables software engineers to easily debug and profile their code without having to connect to target hardware.
"Our expanding Green Hills Software relationship continues to provide engineers using ARC's patented configurable processor technology with one of the most comprehensive tool suites available on the market today," said Derek Meyer, vice president of marketing at ARC.
"The newly optimised MULTI integrated design environment will help our customers to more easily design their ARC-Based chips using tools and platforms that have been pre-verified and tested by both ARC and Green Hills Software." Craig Franklin, vice president of advanced products at Green Hills Software, said: "Green Hills Software has developed our ARC toolkit to meet the needs of a growing number of customers using ARC's patented configurable technology".

"With this introduction, we took the most potent development tools available today and put them into the hands of engineers designing with ARC cores".
"This solution has been adopted by customers resulting in optimised consumer products." ARC 600 and ARC 700 core families - the ARC 600 core family offers a variety of CPU and DSP cores that deliver high performance in a small silicon area with minimal power consumption.
The ARC 700 core family features the smallest 32-bit 400MHz processor available today, and provides support for complex applications with an MMU and processing modes that enable feature-rich and secure operating systems.
Both the ARC 600 and ARC 700 core families are DSP-enhanced and eliminate the need for additional signal processing engines.
MULTI integrated development environment - the MULTI IDE provides a complete, tightly integrated set of tools for the rapid development, debugging and optimisation of embedded software.
The MULTI IDE is tightly integrated with ARC's MetaWare C/C++ compiler and instruction set simulators, and supports target connections using Green Hills Software's Green Hills or Slingshot JTAG processor probes or the MetaWare parallel port interface.
Availability - the Green Hills MULTI integrated development environment optimised for the ARC 600 and 700 core families is available for licensing from Green Hills Software.
