Aragon Photonics has released an enhanced version of the BOSA, dubbed the highest resolution optical spectrum analyser (OSA) on the market.

The new BOSA-C covers the C-band (L-band on request), offering a cost effective solution that will be introduced during ECOC 05 in Glasgow, on Stand 413/414.

With the unbeatable resolution of 0.08pm (10MHz) and extended dynamic range of 80dB now, the new BOSA-C offers also the possibility of measuring big spans up to the complete band with outstanding simultaneous specifications for resolution and dynamic range.

Thanks to the company's proprietary all-optical technology that avoids electrical conversion and filtering, the BOSA performs real-time measurements.

In addition, an application for automated chirp measurement (alfa parameter) will be available as software upgrade this autumn.

Originally intended for the design and test of active components, the BOSA allows designers and manufacturers of optical sources to reach the real noise floor of the SUT (signal under test), which is usually hidden by the dynamic range of measurement systems based on heterodyne methods.

The real time operation and high resolution of the BOSA make it an easy task to study RF signals transmitted over fibre.

The broad measurement spans are ideal for the characterisation of laser combs and pulsed lasers.

In general, the BOSA offers researchers the possibility to go beyond the existing technology barriers when the issue is resolution and simultaneous dynamic range.

The new software is able to register not only screenshots of the measurement but also small videos that prove the dynamic evolution (in real time) of components and systems.
