Microchip's new family of PIC18FXX2 Flash microcontrollers combines an extensive peripheral set with a powerful microcontroller core.

Microchip's new family of PIC18FXX2 Flash microcontrollers combines an extensive peripheral set with a powerful microcontroller core Providing a performance of 10MIPS at 10MHz and an operating range of 2.0-5.5V, the PIC18F242, PIC18F252, PIC18F442 and PIC18F452 offer an extremely flexible solution for embedded control applications

The new microcontrollers are drop-in compatible with the existing PIC18CXX2 OTP family and provide a seamless migration path to flexible, self-programmable Flash-based platforms.

The devices offer up to 32Kbyte of self-programmable Flash memory, 1.5Kbyte of user SRAM and 256byte of data EEPROM.

Features include a 10bit A/D convertor with up to eight input channels, low voltage programmability, a rich peripheral set with both digital and analogue modules and selectable oscillator options.

Other features include a configurable master synchronous serial port in either SPI or a two-wire I2C mode, programmable brown-out and low voltage detect, two 10bit PWMs, a 9bit addressable USART interface, three 16bit timers, one 8bit timer, one Watchdog timer and an 8 x 8 hardware multiplier.

Microchip's novel Flash process manufacturing technology includes a patented PMOS electrically erasable cell which provides best-in-class erase/write endurance, retention, and disturb reliability for both program and on-chip data memory.

The PEEC cell is three times smaller than the previous generation EEPROM cells, providing significant cost reduction advantages, improved reliability and reduced programming times.

Microchip's advanced Flash process technology offers industry-leading endurance with up to 1,000,000 erase/write cycles to data memory and 100,000 erase/write cycles to program memory.

Featuring in-circuit serial programming, Microchip's PICmicro Flash devices allow the microcontrollers to be programmed after being placed in a circuit board and support self-programming over the entire operating voltage range.
