Microchip's new 48 and 64Kbyte PICmicro Flash microcontrollers include added I/O, timers, a feature-rich peripheral set and field self-programmability The 8bit PICmicro devices also feature 4Kbyte of RAM and 1024byte of high-endurance EEPROM data memory

With a performance of 10MIPS at 10MHz and an operating voltage range of 2.0-5.5V, the new microcontrollers are ideal for a wide range of high-end applications.

The peripheral set includes an ADC with up to 16 channels with 10bit resolution and five capture/compare/PWM modules.

Other peripherals include two 8bit timers, three 16bit timers, one watchdog timer, dual analogue comparators and a parallel slave port.

Serial I/O features include SPI, I2C and two LIN compatible addressable USART modules supporting RS485 and RS232.

The microcontrollers feature Microchip's advanced PEEC process technology which provides best-in-class erase/write endurance, retention, and disturb reliability for both program and on-chip data EEPROM.

An entire memory array can be fully erased and programmed in less than 2s, and an individual word can be erased and programmed in less than 3ms.

Available in 64- and 80-pin TQFP packages, the new PIC18F8525/6525 and PIC18F8621/6621 microcontrollers are code-compatible with the company's industry leading 18-, 28- and 40-pin 8bit PICmicro devices.
