High-end 8bit Flash microcontrollers include on-chip high-speed 12bit analogue-to-digital convertors with up to 13 channels.

Microchip announces the four-member PIC18F4523 family - Microchip's first family of high-end 8bit Flash microcontrollers to include an on-chip high-speed 12bit analogue-to-digital convertor (ADC) peripheral with up to 13 channels In addition, this family includes nanoWatt Technology features, which provide design engineers with multiple options for effectively managing power consumption and extending battery life

These features can eliminate the cost, complexity and power consumption of interfacing to an external ADC, while providing the precision required for many sensor measurements in applications such as medical, industrial and utility metering.

Typical precision measurement and control applications for the PIC18F4523 family include medical sensors, data logging and data conditioning, utility metering, power conversion and/ battery chargers.

The PIC18F4523 family is supported by Microchip's free MPLAB IDE integrated development environment, the MPLAB C18 C compiler, MPLAB ICD 2 in-circuit debugger, and the MPLAB PM3 universal device programmer.

In addition, the PICDEM 2 Plus (part number DM163022) can be used to demonstrate the capabilities of the PIC18F4523 family.

The PIC18F4523/4423/2523/2423 microcontrollers are available now.

The PIC18F4523/4423 come in 44-pin QFN or TQFP and 40-pin PDIP packages, and the PIC182523/2423 are available in 28-pin QFN, SOIC and SPDIP packages, all of which are RoHS-compliant.
