LDO cuts power for long-term standby
Power-saving low-dropout regulator is ideal for applications requiring long battery runtimes and high tolerance for input-voltage variations.
Available now from Microchip, the MCP1703 low dropout regulator is a 250mA LDO with low quiescent current of just 2uA and high input voltage of up to 16V The new LDO features device- and circuit-protection capabilities including overvoltage protection and thermal shutdown
The MCP1703 also offers highly accurate output-voltage regulation, including +/-2% overtemperature accuracy, helping to ensure smooth, reliable system operation.
The new device is available in 3-pin SOT-223, SOT-23A and SOT-89 packages, and is ideal for applications requiring long battery runtimes and high tolerance for input-voltage variations, such as smoke detectors, fire alarms and thermostats.
