Armagard's restricted breathing PC enclosures allow standard office-grade PCs to be used in zone 2 environments and are much more affordable than other hazardous area solutions.
MagScan is extremely accurate and maximises productivity.
The system is being rolled out to 25 UK locations at a cost of over ?1million.
WH Smith News decided to use standard PC equipment but identified the need to protect it from the high level of paper dust generated.
According to Andy Hobkirk, Logistics Systems Manager: "We were keen to use standard PC systems because of the ease and cost of upgrade over time but had to be sure of the whole package.
When you are spending this amount of money on improving productivity it is essential to ensure the day-to-day integrity of the system - otherwise downtime can eliminate any savings".
"We looked for a specialist enclosure solution to combat over heating whilst preventing dust penetration.
We initially identified Armagard because of their unrivalled customer base and we have not been disappointed; they have provided an excellent product which integrates well into the MagScan system".
Armagard proposed its All-In-One PC enclosure - a robust mild steel enclosure fitted with cooling and dust filtration.
Each enclosure was configured specifically for MagScan by including an integral membrane keyboard and trackerball pointing device fitted to the front of each unit, and a ten-way surge-protected mains adapter to accommodate all the electronic devices associated with each station.
