Two new ARM-based microcontrollers support enhanced network and system interoperability.

Two new ARM-based microcontrollers support enhanced network and system interoperability Based on the ARM720T core, Sharp Microelectronics' latest 16/32 and 32bit BlueStreak SoCs integrate Ethernet MACs and USB functionality on-chip

Among the applications that will benefit from these capabilities are industrial control units, medical appliances, data collection equipment, smart toys, handheld instruments and audio players.

The two new BlueStreak SoCs, 32bit LH79524 and 16/32bit LH79525, run at a clock speed of 77.4MHz and offer a high level of integration.

Peripherals integrated on-chip include: 10/100Base-T Ethernet MAC, USB port, touch screen controller, a programmable LCD controller and external direct memory access (DMA).

The programmable LCD controller supports up to 64K colours (LH79524) and 4K colours (LH79525).

Both SoCs allow the direct connection of STN, colour STN, TFT and advanced-TFT panels.

The BlueStreak SoCs LH79524/LH79525 also include 16Kbyte of on-chip SRAM, I2C, I2S, counter/timers, SDRAM controller and a watchdog timer.

Both SoCs support all types of Flash memories and offer design engineers the opportunity to optimise the costs of product development.

Beta samples of BlueStreak LH79524/LH79525 are planned for the second quarter of 2004.

The production launch of BlueStreak LH79524/LH79525 is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2004.
