Power modules offer smart integration
Arrow is now offering a comprehensive family of smart power modules (SPMs) that integrate digital, analogue and discrete technologies in a single compact package.
Arrow is now offering a comprehensive family of smart power modules (SPMs) that integrate digital, analogue and discrete technologies in a single compact package The SPMs can reduce the component count, board space and development time and improve the reliability of low-power inverter-based motor drives in the 100 to 253V AC range

Single-chip control of PC Card interfaces
Arrow Electronics has a family of compact, highly integrated and power-efficient PC Card controllers that will help designers to lower component count, save space and reduce power consumption.
Fairchild's DIP (FSAMxxxx and FSBMxxxx), Mini-DIP (FSBBxxxx and FSBSxxxx) and Tiny-DIP (FSB50xxx) SPMs provide high efficiency, cost-effective solutions for motor power ratings ranging from 50W to 7.5kW.
DIP and Mini-DIP SPMs combine, in a single package, three high voltage ICs (HVICs), one low voltage IC (LVIC) and six IGBTs with fast recovery diodes (FWDs).
The low loss IGBTs are rated at 600V, and SPM current capabilities range from 3A to 30A depending on the device chosen.
Tiny-DIP devices integrate six FRFETs and three half-bridge HVICs.
The DIP, Mini-DIP and Tiny-DIP packages have respective footprints of 60mm x 31mm, 44mm x 26.8mm and 29mm x 12mm Available current ratings are 10 to 75A in the case of the DIP modules, 3 to 30A for the Mini-DIP series, and 2 to 3A for the Tiny-DIP parts.
As a result, designers can standardise on a single package outline for a broad range of motor requirements.
DIP and Mini-DIP SPMs have a minimum isolation voltage rating of 2500V RMS and incorporate a number of optimised circuit protection features to maximise system reliability and to further reduce the need for external components.
Integrated protection functionality includes undervoltage lockout and short circuit protection, while the DIP SPMs also offer the option of a built-in thermistor for temperature monitoring.
Tiny-DIP SPMs are rated for an isolation voltage of 1500V RMS.
Target applications for the SPM parts include industrial motion control applications such as fans, pumps, cooling systems and tooling machines, as well as home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators.
To further simplify the development of applications based on the Fairchild SPM technology, an SPM design tool is available free-of-charge.
This PC-based software tool provides step-by-step design procedures for motor drive solutions.
