High peak current from low-power PFC supply

The new NLS110-9602 has a power output capability of 80W - which can be boosted to 110W with 20ft3/min of forced- air cooling - and is power factor corrected to comply with the EN61000-3-2 standard for harmonic current content.

The unit provides +5.1, +24, +12 and -12V outputs with maximum continuous current ratings of 10, 4.5, 5 and 1A, respectively.

However, the power supply is also capable of delivering very high peak currents; the 5.1V output, for example, can supply up to 20A for periods of up to a minute, provided that the duty cycle does not exceed 10% and the total peak power does not exceed 110W.

This makes the NLS110-9602 a particularly cost-effective solution for equipment fitted with low power motors, actuators or solenoids, such as thermal printers, disk-based storage devices and vending machines.

The NLS110-9602 is an open-frame low-profile design, with a small 7.0 x 4.25in footprint.

The power supply features a universal input that accommodates any voltage in the range 90 to 264V AC at any frequency from 47 to 440Hz.

The 5.1V DC output is equipped with overvoltage protection, and all four outputs are comprehensively protected against short-circuit conditions, with full autorecovery.

An optional power fail detect output signal is available.

Artesyn's NLS110-9602 power supplies fully comply with the rigorous EN55022-B conducted noise and EN55022-A radiated noise standards, and meet all applicable immunity standards, including EN61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5 and -6 levels 3.

The power supplies also carry comprehensive UL, CSA and VDE safety approvals, and are CE-marked in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive.
