The ALT Series is the latest range of single- and dual-output DC/DC convertors from Astec Power housed in compact packages with a footprint of only 40.6 x 50.8mm Although standing only 9.6mm above the printed circuit board, ALT Series devices deliver up to 25W from a single-output module or 30W from a dual-output device, at a typical efficiency of 87%

Designed to deliver 6A from the 3.3V output, 5A from the 5V output, 1.25A from the +/-12V and 3A from the +/- 5V, the ALT models operate with a mere 200 linear feet per minute of airflow across the unit, even at an ambient air temperature of 55C.

The ALT Series is rated for input voltage surges of up to 100V for 100ms and up to 1500V DC (basic insulation) across its primary to secondary isolation barrier.

Optimised for quick transient responsiveness, the ALT Series also maintains excellent stability (having more than 50 degrees of phase margin), while delivering its power into high capacitance/low equivalent series resistance (ESR) loads of up to 2.2mF, and down to 3mohm at output.

Standard features for the ALT Series include: output voltages adjustable a full +/-10%; undervoltage lockout with hysteresis to prevent false starting and stopping at low input voltages; and overtemperature, overcurrent and overvoltage protection to ensure dependable performance under a wide range of operating conditions.

For added flexibility, the enable input control pin can be ordered as either positive or negative logic.

With a wide input voltage range (36-75V) and an excellent temperature coefficient (+0.02%/C), the new convertors are ideal for data and telecommunications applications, including wireless transmitters, receivers and basestations.

They are also well suited for instrumentation and internetworking devices, such as hubs and routers.

Their high output current capacities and adjustable output voltages also make the ALT Series models ideal for automated test and measurement equipment, to accommodate the tightly regulated low voltages and high currents demanded by today's newest ICs.

The wide operating temperature range of -40 to +100C assures reliable operation in most environments.

Conformance to industry-standard pinout, footprint, and package size enables designers to easily upgrade existing products to take advantage of the superior performance of the new ALT models.

This "drop-in" compatibility with the industry standard footprint simplifies compliance with multiple sourcing policies.
