The new HPS35 line of compact 350W AC/DC bulk power supply modules are initially available with 12V DC outputs and will be available in 48V DC in Q2 2004.

The new HPS35 line of compact 350W AC/DC bulk power supply modules are initially available with 12V DC outputs and will be available in 48V DC in Q2 2004 An additional 24V output option will be available later this year

Individual HPS35 modules deliver 350W of output power at 80% efficiency.

A 19in rack can be configured with up to four of the compact modules for a total of 1400W of clean bulk DC power in less than 400in3 of rack space.

For maximum system reliability, the hot-swappable modules can also be installed in N+1 redundant configurations.

The new devices target datacommunications, data storage, telecomms and industrial applications that use distributed power architecture.

Featuring full current sharing capabilities and built-in ORing diodes for isolation, the HPS35 modules are specifically designed to support hot-swapping and redundancy for applications requiring the highest reliability.

An extension of Astec Power's popular HPS Series of bulk front end power supplies with power ranges up to 18kW, the new 1U height model addresses a wide range of requirements where designers seek reliable and cost effective power solutions while increasing available rack space.

The HPS35 modules accept AC input from 90 to 264V and feature active power factor correction (typically better than 0.98) that meets EN61000-3-2 standards for input current harmonic content.

The single-output devices provide either 116.8A at 12V DC or 29.2A at 48V DC and also offer a standby supervisory output of 5V at 2A.

Each module has overvoltage and overcurrent protection, active inrush current limiting circuitry and an internal ORing device.

The fan-cooled units have no minimum load requirements and include built-in EMI filtering, overtemperature protection, remote inhibit and remote sensing on the main output.

An upcoming option for the HPS35 Series includes an I2C communications board for voltage and current monitoring, remote on/off and sensing of AC, DC, temperature and fan failure.

The new HPS35 modules comply with worldwide safety and performance standards including UL60950, TUV, CB Report and CE Mark.

Designed to meet FCC and CISPR22/EN55022 Level B requirements for conducted and radiated emissions, the HPS modules also meet all industry standard noise and immunity requirements.

In addition, the rugged new models operate without derating over a wide temperature range from -10 to +50C and conform to industry standards for shock and vibration.

Operation from 50 to 70C is possible by derating the output by 2.5%/C above 50C.

OEM prices for the new models start at less than $250 for basic modules, excluding rack hardware.

Additional output selections are slated for availability later this year.

The 1U 19in rack can be ordered separately.
