In addition to substantial advances in power density, the Astec AIF-300Vin family offers a host of embedded functions that include monitoring, protection, and adjustment capabilities as well as a communications bus that can store valuable end-user information.
By including these capabilities in the convertor itself, designers need not create these features externally on the circuit board.
Along with streamlining design time, this flexibility frees up board space and allows for future increases the density of the design.
Operating at a wide baseplate temperature range from and -40 to +100C, the new models reach up to 90% efficiency at 5V output.
The key embedded functions include: current sharing, enable (positive and negative option), output voltage adjust, clock-in (for synchronisation in parallel application), temperature monitoring and output current monitoring.
With increasing needs for storing and communicating significant end-user information, the devices also include the increasingly popular I2C interface with an internal EEPROM for data storage.
To minimise external connections and optimise control, the Astec AIF-300Vin also incorporates an internal microprocessor that can control all of the monitoring and adjustment features through the I2C interface bus.
Beyond these monitoring and control functions, all models offer a number of safeguards such as overtemperature, overvoltage and overcurrent protections.
Designed with state-of-the-art components, the Astec AIF family employs surface-mount designs that simplify manufacturing while enhancing quality and reliability.
As with all of Astec's DC/DC products, the new families meet international performance and safety standards including those from UL, cUL, TUV and CE.
Priced from $220 each in OEM quantities, the 1.8, 3.3 and 5V output models are available now, and the 12, 15, 24 and 48V output models will be available in July 2005.
