A new generation of software-customisable switching power supplies from Astec Power features sophisticated digital management capabilities.

A new generation of software-customisable switching power supplies from Astec Power features sophisticated digital management capabilities This microprocessor-controlled design is billed as the industry's first AC/DC power supply to offer a fully software customisable power solution with the low cost and immediate availability expected from a standard "off-the-shelf" unit

Astec's new iMP Series allows designers complete software control over every major aspect of PSU configuration.

Custom power solutions from 400 to 1500W can be tailored in software to the specific and individual needs of an application using standard units comprising single, dual, and triple output modules in power ratings from 400 to 750W.

These modules can be configured in a selection of three customisable MP cases accepting input voltages from 85 to 264V AC or 120 to 350V DC.

Cases can accommodate up to seven individual modules with a choice of outputs ranging from 2 to 60V DC.

"In addition to having 50% higher power density than previous generation products, this new breed of switching power supplies uses integrated digital capabilities to provide smart communication and programmable control features that will enable designers to precisely fine tune power for their needs throughout the development process", explained Astec Product Marketing Director Chris Jones.

"The easy-to-use microprocessor interface allows designers to make adjustments to a host of parameters including: voltage, current, fan speed, sequencing, power factor correction, inrush and more".

"In spite of the advanced feature set, designers should find that this new digital generation of intelligent switching power supplies be price competitive with existing technology", continued Jones.

Using the Windows software provided, designers can program all key features of iMP Series modules, including: output voltage; output enable/sequencing; module inhibit/enable polarity; DC OK and AC OK thresholds; output current limit setpoint and type; overtemperature and overvoltage threshold; current share configuration; and intelligent fan control.

Using the increasingly popular I2C communication protocol, these systems will also be able to monitor and capture configuration and in-service information as well as parametric data for each output.

Backed by a two-year warranty, iMP Series products meet worldwide safety and performance standards including listings from UL and CE as well as full medical compliance with EN60601.

In addition, all units are RoHS compliant.
