The Astec AIF and AIH Series are integrated convertor modules offering a particularly high power density up to 108W/in3.

Emerson Network Power has introduced a new range of high-power integrated DC/DC brick convertors from Astec Power The Astec AIF and AIH Series are integrated convertor modules offering a particularly high power density up to 108W/in3

The half-brick AIH version can deliver up to 250W, and the AIF version up to 600W of output power from a wide input range of 250 to 420V DC.

The new range provides an extensive choice of single output versions offering DC voltages of 1.8, 3.3, 5, 12, 15, 24 and 48V (AIF only).

With a high level of built-in intelligence, improved power efficiency and a wide operating temperature range, these advanced modules provide an ideal power solution for communications, industrial, non-patient-connected medical equipment and ground base military applications.

The devices are especially well suited for compact enclosed systems and protected outdoor environments.

The modules also support multi-module parallel operation, providing a simple route to larger power system requirements.

The next generation design of the Astec AIF/AIH Series provides a whole new set of embedded functions that deliver major benefits to end users.

These new convertors provide an extensive set of "embedded" functions that include monitoring, protection and adjustment capabilities as well as a communication bus, coupled with onboard EEPROM, which allows the storage of valuable user-defined information that eliminates the need for designers to create these features externally on the circuit board.

This flexibility frees up board space and allows for future increases in the density of the design.

Operating at a wide base-plate temperature range from 40 to +100C without derating, the new models reach up to 90% efficiency at 5V output.

The key embedded functions include: current sharing, enable (positive and negative option), output voltage adjust; clock-in (for synchronisation in parallel application), temperature monitoring and output current monitoring.

With increasing needs for storing and communicating significant end-user information, the devices also include the increasingly popular I2C Interface with an internal EEPROM for data storage.

To minimise external connections and optimise control, the Astec AIF/AIH Series also incorporates an internal microprocessor that can control all of the monitoring and adjustment features through the I2C interface bus.

Beyond these monitoring and control functions, all models offer a number of safeguards such as overtemperature, overvoltage and overcurrent protections.

Designed with state-of-the-art components, the Astec AIF family employs surface-mount designs that simplify manufacturing while enhancing quality and reliability.

As with all of Astec's DC/DC products, the new families meet international performance and safety standards including those from UL, cUL, TUV and CE.
