Artimi will conduct the first public demonstration of its next-generation Bluetooth over ultrawideband (UWB) silicon at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona Visitors to Artimi's booth at the 3GSM World Congress will be able to download images or other files from their Bluetooth-enabled mobile handset to a laptop

Artimi will then use its next-generation Bluetooth over UWB technology to wirelessly transfer the files to another computer, demonstrating the enhanced speed that can be achieved using next-generation Bluetooth.

Colin Macnab, CEO of Artimi, comments: "Downloading a typical image from a camera-phone using today's Bluetooth takes between 30 and 60 seconds".

"Moving the same image using next-generation Bluetooth over UWB takes just a fraction of this time, with data transfer speeds of 480Mbit/s".

"When UWB is integrated into next-generation Bluetooth devices, consumers will have almost instant image and file download, wirelessly".

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has mandated that ultrawideband will be included in the next generation specification for Bluetooth, and it has selected the WiMedia Alliance standard for its UWB implementation.

Artimi's A-150 WiMedia-based UWB MAC and Application Platform is available now, and the A-150 Development Kit enables consumer electronics device developers to develop low power, high throughput products.

Artimi's products provide support for both next-generation Bluetooth and Certified Wireless USB in a single highly integrated chip, providing maximum flexibility in product design.

Alongside its IC and development kit, Artimi has a number of reference designs available to benefit its customers by reducing the time to market for their UWB-enabled consumer electronics products, such as cameras, printers and peripherals, personal media players and mobile handsets.

In addition to its Bluetooth demonstration, Artimi will be showcasing a Wireless USB camera demo at the 3GSM World Congress.

Images taken using Artimi's camera are instantly downloaded to a laptop and printer using the camera's in-built Wireless USB capability.

Artimi's booth can be found at the WiMedia Alliance Techzone, Booth 7C58, in Hall 7 of the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, from 12th to 15th February 2007.
