Artisan Software Tools has become an Associate Member of the Automotive Open Systems Architecture (Autosar) development partnership.

Artisan Software Tools has become an Associate Member of the Automotive Open Systems Architecture (Autosar) development partnership Autosar is a partnership of key players in the automotive, electronics and software industries whose objective is the establishment of an open standard for an automotive electric/electronics (E/E) architecture that will serve as a basic infrastructure for the management of functions within applications embedded in vehicles

Core partners of Autosar are BMW, Bosch, Continental, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, PSA, Siemens VDO, Toyota and Volkswagen.

With customers including Audi, Blaupunkt, Bosch, Daimler Chrysler, Delphi, Denso, International Truck, Renault, Volkswagen, Yazaki and ZF, to name a few, the automotive industry is an increasingly important sector for Artisan.

The company's popularity in the automotive industry is due, in large part, to the focus of its tools on both systems and software development as well as its unique use of a shared repository that fosters unprecedented communication between suppliers and OEMs.

"Artisan joins Autosar as an Associate Member and will have early access to information regarding the results from working groups focusing on standardisation of automotive electronics including method definitions", said Thomas Scharnhorst, Autosar spokesperson.

"Artisan will bring to Autosar its extensive experience and knowledge of systems and software modelling standards, processes and methodologies as applied to real-time and safety critical applications".

"We look forward to partnering with Artisan in building the specifications for the next generation automotive electric/electronics (E/E) architectures".

Jeremy Goulding, Artisan's President and CEO commented: "The Autosar initiative works toward networking systems and subsystems, and creating a common technology interface both to and within the vehicle".

"As the leading vendor bringing the OMG's UML based systems modelling language (SysML) to embedded systems, we've been urged by the automotive industry to join Autosar".

"Our goal is to understand from the inside of this partnership exactly what users need most, and to provide first class tool support for that to build on our position as a leading systems and software modelling tool partner for automotive electronics development".
