Software simplifies SMD setups
New software simplifies setup of SMD placement machines, particularly in applications where the production line is configured to process a multiplicity of smaller production batches.
A new version of Assembleon's zero-defect setup assistance software is designed to further simplify setup of its SMD placement machines, particularly in applications where the production line is configured to process a multiplicity of smaller production batches Two new features are available for all SVS-Pro supported machines and the feeder loading unit

Mounter puts larger components on larger PCBs
Assembleon's release of an enhanced Topaz-X component mounter further strengthens the company's position in the medium-volume SMT assembly marketplace.
In the case of a board family setup, Assembleon's PPS Pro production preparation software uses "dummy" feeders so that the setup is identical during optimisation of the various process programs of the family.
The use of dummy feeders implies that in the setup of a particular process program a part number is defined but is not present, although it may be present in the process program of another board in the family.
SVS-Pro 3.1 allows two different modes of operation.
In the stricter mode of operation, SVS-Pro 3.1 checks all feeders in a process program, including those for which no mountline exists (dummies).
Thus, if a feeder is not present, SVS-Pro 3.1 will not allow production to proceed even if the related part number is not used on the board.
In a less strict mode of operation, SVS-Pro 3.1 does not check the dummy feeders and does not generate an error, but allows production to start.
With this "scenario selection", SVS-Pro works with whatever setup scenario is normal to the user, making the application easier to embed in the production process.
To even further enhance the capability of SVS-Pro to work with a huge variety of barcodes, placement machines and the loading unit can now read multiple composite barcodes and format string for quantity barcodes in combination with nonleaded barcodes.
In addition, for the loading unit, SVS-Pro 3.1 improves operator guidance during feeder programming, clearly showing which feeders are needed in the selected setup and which are not.
For Assembleon's AX machines, SVS-Pro 3.1 provides automatic feeder pitch programming, whereby the feeder will adopt the index settings as specified in the AX.
Finally, SVS-Pro 3.1 now offers multilanguage support, including multibyte languages, on the AX machines and the loading unit.
Supported languages are English, German, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
