Artesyn Communication Products and Wind River Systems have joined forces to offer the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment on Artesyn's telecomms blades Artesyn has also joined Wind River's Alliance Programme as a platform partner

Artesyn and Wind River will work together to develop Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks board support packages (BSP) for Artesyn's telecomms blades, beginning with the PowerPC-based KatanaQp AdvancedTCA blade.

Wind River will provide validation services for the new BSPs.

Both companies will work together to market the new products.

Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux edition is available with the latest mainstream releases of OSDL Carrier Grade Linux (version 2.0.1) and Linux 2.6, combines Wind River's Eclipse-based Wind River Workbench development suite with a rich set of networking middleware.

The platform makes it easy for telecomms OEMs to develop and deploy a complete range of network equipment applications, from core and enterprise to access and edge devices.

"Wind River is a pre-eminent supplier of real-time operating systems and has taken the lead in offering an integrated development and run-time environment for carrier grade Linux", said Todd Wynia, Vice President of Marketing at Artesyn.

"Our high-availability AdvancedTCA blades, together with the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, provide an ideal foundation for building a broad range of high-availability telecom infrastructure systems".

"Artesyn has always been at the forefront of providing open architecture solutions for high-availability telecom infrastructure applications", added John Fanelli, Vice President of Product Planning and Management at Wind River.

"We're happy to have Artesyn on board as a Platform partner and look forward to working with them to develop optimised versions of our Network Equipment Platform for their high-availability telecom blades".

The KatanaQp is a high-performance ATCA telecomms blade that combines two PowerPC MPC7447A processors with four PTMC expansion sites, redundant IPMI-based system management interfaces, and a PICMG 3.1-compliant ATCA interface equipped with 10 Gigabit Ehernet channels.

The KatanaQp's high-speed PowerPC processors, switched fabric ATCA interface, flexible mezzanine expansion, and integrated system management make it easy to customise for a wide variety of control and packet processing applications, including WAN access, SS7/Sigtran signalling, media gateways, traffic processing, wireless basestations and softswitches.
