Artesyn Communication Products has revealed that MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) will be available for its KosaiPM AdvancedMC modules KosaiPM customers will be able to purchase MontaVista Linux CGE directly from MontaVista Software, preconfigured for the KosaiPM

The Artesyn KosaiPM is a hot-swappable, single-wide, full-height, AdvancedMC card that makes it easy to add processing power to AdvancedTCA blades, MicroTCA systems, and proprietary systems equipped with AdvancedMC expansion bays.

MontaVista Linux running on Artesyn's AdvancedMC modules gives TEMs a flexible, open and proven foundation for building and deploying reliable, feature-rich, carrier-class Linux control, packet and protocol processing systems.

"Embedded Linux is emerging as a dominant platform for building high-availability network infrastructure products, and we are committed to offering our telecom equipment OEM customers the finest carrier-grade Linux solutions", said Todd Wynia, Vice President of Marketing at Artesyn.

"KosaiPM AdvancedMC modules equipped with MontaVista Linux CGE provide a flexible platform for adding high-performance, carrier-grade control, packet and protocol processing to a broad range of ATCA, MicroTCA, and custom telecom systems equipped with AdvancedMC expansion sites".

MontaVista Linux CGE is an open, flexible development platform that addresses the demanding requirements of carrier grade telecom applications, with a strong focus on open standards and high-availability services.

MontaVista CGE is the industry's most field tested and proven Linux distribution.

It is the only carrier grade Linux deployed by the world's leading TEMs in carrier networks for over three generations of product, and it serves as the foundation for advanced telecom currently in design.

MontaVista CGE is also the only carrier grade Linux operating system that complies with both the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum) Application Interface Specifications for high availability services and the Open Source Development Lab's (OSDL) requirements for Carrier Grade Linux 2.0.

"Linux is becoming the platform of choice for many TEMs wanting to leverage cost-effective, off-the-shelf (COTS) components", said Peder Ulander, Vice President of Marketing at MontaVista Software.

"MontaVista Linux running on Artesyn's AdvancedMC modules gives TEMs a flexible, open and proven foundation for building and deploying reliable, feature-rich, carrier-class solutions".

KosaiPM is a hot-swappable, single-wide, full-height, AdvancedMC card that makes it easy to add processing power to AdvancedTCA blades, MicroTCA systems, and proprietary systems equipped with AdvancedMC expansion bays.

KosaiPM makes an ideal control plane processor for optical and wireless infrastructure.

It is also ideal for augmenting packet processing and routing performance in voice gateways, and for enhancing protocol processing performance in SS7 and Sigtran signalling control points and gateways.

The KosaiPM features a 1.8GHz Pentium M processor, 2Mbyte of Level 2 cache, up to 2Gbyte of DRAM, and a high-speed AdvancedMC system interface equipped with two Gigabit Ethernet channels.

The KosaiPM also features an I2C-based Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI), which enables it to be monitored and controlled by remote shelf management controllers.

The RoHS-compliant KosaiPM will be generally available from Artesyn Technologies with CGE support from MontaVista in Q1 of 2006.
