ATCA server blade is powered by a pair of dual-core Intel Xeon processors.

Emerson Network Power's Embedded Computing business has unveiled a high-performance quad-core AdvancedTCA blade for communications infrastructure applications The KAT6200 is a field replaceable ATCA server blade that features a pair of dual-core Intel Xeon processors, a high-speed ATCA switched fabric, a mid-size AdvancedMC expansion bay, redundant IPMI system management and an optional 2.5in SAS hard drive

"The KAT6200 server blade provides a unique blend of carrier-grade computing, high-capacity data storage, integrated system management and custom expansion capability", says Jeff Durst, Programme Director for Emerson's Embedded Computing business.

"This combination makes the KAT6200 easy to configure for a broad range of wireless and wireline infrastructure applications requiring high-speed control, packet and database processing, including radio network controllers, media gateways, home location registers, packet traffic processors and soft switches".

The KAT6200 features a pair of server-class Woodcrest Xeon LV5138 dual-core processors, each running at 2.13GHz and equipped with 4Mbyte of L2 cache.

The two processors, using an Intel 5000P memory controller hub, share access to 16Gbyte of RAM.

The KAT6200 also provides carrier-grade features including 16Mbyte of persistent SRAM for event logging, and redundant 2Mbyte firmware banks, which protect existing firmware in the event of an unsuccessful upgrade.

To maximise system throughput, the KAT6200 provides separate ATCA control/management and data planes.

The KAT6200 also features a high-performance ATCA fabric interface, which makes it ideal for converged packet-based telecomms infrastructure applications requiring high data throughput.

An Intel 6321ESB I/O controller provides two gigabit Ethernet channels to the ATCA base fabric.

The memory controller hub provides two gigabit Ethernet channels to the ATCA high-speed fabric.

The KAT6200 features redundant PICMG 3.0 Intelligent Platform Management Interfaces (IPMI), which extend to the AdvancedMC site.

This interface, incorporating dual I2C-based Intelligent Platform Management Buses (IPMB), enhances system management by making it easy for shelf management controllers to monitor, control and manage the KAT6200 and attached AdvancedMC modules.

The KAT6200's onboard AdvancedMC expansion bay can support a single mid-sise, hot-swappable AdvancedMC card, or an onboard 2.5in SAS hard drive.

The KAT6200 baseboard provides three, high-performance interfaces to the AdvancedMC site: gigabit Ethernet (x2), PCI Express (x4) and dual SAS interfaces.

Software support for the KAT6200 includes Carrier Grade Linux.

The KAT6200 will be available in July of this year through Emerson's Early Customer Involvement programme.
