Motorola Computer Group has launched a new version of its FACT software to help telecomms OEMs speed the development and deployment of wireless media gateways and enhanced voice-based service platforms.
FACT provides a comprehensive environment for managing Motorola's range of ComStruct DSP boards, and this latest release includes support for the recently launched ComStruct CPCI/C6410, a powerful voice and data processing engine designed to handle the data flows and processing needs of carrier-class multichannel applications.
The new release of FACT is engineered to run under Motorola's HA Linux operating system within the recently announced HXP chassis, which has Ethernet embedded in the backplane (PICMG 2.16 standard), to provide a higher level solution for gateway and wireless applications.
The ComStruct CPCI/C6410 has the processing power required for the implementation of adaptive rate vocoders, such as GSM-AMR (adaptive multirate) and EVRC (enhanced variable rate codec), within 2.5G and 3G core networks.
Onboard Ethernet/ATM and H.110 interfaces enable connectivity to the UMTS radio access network (UTRAN) and the public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well as to IP-based public land mobile networks (PLMN).
FACT enables developers to harness the power of on-board DSP and RISC processors from a high level API and provides the underlying software, which removes the need for DSP-level programming and helps to significantly reduce application development time.
This new version of FACT also supports packet network connectivity and so enables the developer to take advantage of the enhanced Ethernet capabilities of the HXP H.110 intelligent packet transport platform and ComStruct CPCI/C6410.
"In this competitive market, network operators have succeeded by focusing on increasing their average revenue per user, but in the light of falling margins on voice calls the way to drive that revenue is through the rapid rollout of new and innovative services", said Karl Wale.
"FACT enables this by tying together a strong base of standard call processing features such as voice compression algorithms, tone detection, fax and conferencing with an open architecture that enables developers to add functions for those innovative new services.
The bottom line is that FACT enables telecom OEMs to get to market faster and retain their competitive edge by differentiating their features and services".
"This new release is an important step in the evolution of the FACT software framework as Motorola Computer Group begins to enable a wide range of open standards communications interfaces, which are crucial for the high density telecomms applications in next generation platforms", he continued.
