The PrPMC1100 is the first processor PCI mezzanine card (PrPMC) designed for the recently announced Intel IXC1100 control plane processor.

PrPMC modules provide a complete host CPU and memory subsystem in a compact, industry-standard form factor that is designed to provide telecommunications equipment manufacturers with greater design flexibility and help reduce system development costs.

The PrPMC1100 expands Motorola's processor PMC portfolio to include an ARM-based Intel XScale core, which provides the performance, upgrade flexibility and low power consumption necessary for today's telecommunications equipment.

Service providers and network operators are placing increasing emphasis on the quick and cost-effective deployment of new revenue-generating services.

Motorola's PrPMC1100 is supported by an extensive software developer's network that will simplify development with an extensive set of routines and standard APIs.

The PrPMC1100 is designed for deployment, saving customers valuable time by minimizing any additional porting to their releasable product.

"Fast time-to-market development and compact computing have never been more important to equipment manufacturers in markets such as telecommunications", said Greg Novak, product-marketing manager, Motorola Computer Group.

"Working closely with Intel as part of the Applied Computing Platform Providers program ensures that our customers have rapid access to this technology within our proven building block architecture.

Our PrPMC1100 is a fully integrated hardware building block morphing from development to a deployable platform for use in existing communications infrastructure equipment".

Doug Davis, general manager, Intel's Network Processor Division said, "We are impressed with the work Motorola has done in incorporating our IXC1100 control plane processor into their design.

The combination of the Intel IXC1100 and the Motorola PrPMC1100 has created a highly flexible solution for the high performance applications required by today's communications industry".

The PrPMC1100, an extension of Motorola's PrPMC family, also provides the following features: up to 256Mbyte PC133 SDRAM; an extensive control plane development environment; ultra low power consumption (typically less than 5W); up to 32Mbyte of socketed Flash memory; debug support via serial and JTAG ports; a Standard Height and width of 75 x 150mm; compatibility with the VITA32 processor PMC standard; and front panel or rear Pn4 I/O.

The PrPMC110 is expected to sample in October 2002.
