Client library aids flexible media processing

Aculab has launched a media resource control protocol (MRCP) client for use with its Prosody media processing resource product range and IP telephony PCI card.

The MRCP client library is a common programming interface that provides developers with an alternative method of controlling speech resources, such as automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS), from speech vendors supporting the MRCP standard.

MRCP brings the benefits expected from a standards based implementation in that there is no longer the need to interface to separate and proprietary audio providers or speech interfaces.

This means significantly reduced costs for the integration of speech technologies from any mix of vendors, and faster time to market for both new and updated solutions.

Aculab's MRCP client library implements IETF MRCP version 1 draft 7.

By supporting the MRCP standard Aculab has compatibility with all the major speech vendors.

Aculab's MRCP client has been tested for use with products from Loquendo, Nuance (including ScanSoft) and Telisma.

The MRCP client is available under a cost free licence, which furthermore confirms Aculab's commitment to offering unmatched value and to continually extend the features available to applications using Prosody.

The MRCP client is available to download via the Aculab installation tool (AIT) from Aculab's website and is available for use in Windows XP/2000, Windows Server 2003, Linux, and SPARC Solaris platform environments.
