Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has incorporated Astro and other Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC design tools from Avant! into its reference design flow for 0.13-micron technology and below.

The reference design flow is part of Chartered's complete solution, helping customers with their multi-million-gate SoC designs.

"Our customers need to meet faster and faster market cycle times in spite of the tremendous complexity of SoC designs, and Chartered is committed to providing solutions that help our customers address these issues", said Michael Buehler-Garcia, vice president of business development and worldwide marketing at Chartered.

"Adding Astro's capabilities and performance together with other Avant! Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC design tools to Chartered's reference design flow will assist us in providing solutions that address our customers' design issues such as logic optimisation, timing closure, signal integrity, rail analysis, and die sise".

Avant!'s SinglePass-SoC solution incorporated by Chartered includes Astro with Astro-Xtalk and Astro-Rail options for optimisation, place and route, signal integrity, and power integrity; Columbia chip assembly; Jupiter hierarchical design planning; Hercules physical verification; and Star-RCXT full-chip, sign-off extraction.

In particular, Astro provides an ultra-deep-submicron (UDSM) design closure solution for advanced fabrication technologies such as those provided by Chartered.

Two key breakthroughs, PhySiSys technology and the Milkyway-Duo architecture, enable Astro to concurrently optimise logic, placement, timing, clock, signal integrity, power integrity, die sise and yield through highly efficient processes, resulting in design closure in a faster, easier-to-use and more memory-efficient way.

Compared to Apollo-II, Astro averages 10% faster chip speed, up to 3x faster run time and 50% reduction in memory usage.

"We are very pleased that Astro and our Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC design solution are selected by Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing to enable its customers to quickly achieve design closure for the largest SoC designs", said Dr.Paul Lo, president of Avant! Corporation.

"This underscores Avant!'s leadership for advanced, UDSM design closure with the fastest time to market".
