The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) IT SoC Support Centre, has selected Avant!'s Astro as its design-automation solution to achieve rapid design closure for SoC designs.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) Information Technology SoC Support Centre, has selected Avant!'s advanced Astro physical optimisation, placement and routing system as its design-automation solution to achieve rapid design closure for SoC designs.

The ETRI IT Support Centre is a leading non-profit, government-funded organisation in Korea that assists promising start-up companies that are developing leading-edge SoC designs.

"We are excited and confident that Astro is the best-in-class physical optimisation, place and route solution for design success in an extremely tight time-to-market arena", said Dr Jang-Hyun Park, project manager of the ETRI IT SoC Support Centre.

"The advanced capability of the Astro system and the Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC design solution match the advanced technology, multi-million-gate design needs of the startup companies we support".

Astro is rapidly being adopted as the premier ultra-deep-submicron (UDSM) design-closure solution.

Two key breakthroughs, PhySiSys technology and the Milkyway-DUO architecture, enable Astro to concurrently address the extreme demands of UDSM design including timing, optimisation, clocks, signal integrity, power integrity, die size and yield.

Using highly efficient processes, Astro provides complete design closure in a faster, easier-to-use and more memory-efficient way.

Compared with Apollo-II, Astro achieves 10% faster chip speed, up to 3x faster runtime, and 50% reduction in memory usage.

"The breakthrough technology of the Astro tool is part of Avant!'s Milkyway-based, SinglePass-SoC design solution that enables our customers to quickly achieve design closure on the most advanced SoC designs", said Dr Paul Lo, president of Avant! Corp.

"ETRI's selection of Astro as the premier tool for multi-million-gate SoC design affirms Avant!'s leadership for advanced UDSM design closure".
